And the Red Dot Award winner is...

The Ronda chair, designed by Lievore Altherr Molina, was one of the 2014 Red Dot Award recipients.  This prize is an international benchmark for design trends and innovation in the areas of automotive, technology, furniture… The Red Dot is a showcase of objects utilized in our daily lives.

Since its inception in 1955, these awards have recognized designers, manufacturers and high profile global brands. A professional jury composed of 40 members, has selected the Ronda collection from 4,815 products competing in many different categories.

As publicized by Red Dot, this year’s awards was highlighted by the high level of participation and great competition in all sections and especially in the “Best Product Design" category of, where the Ronda chair received the award. The seat created by Lievore Altherr Molina faced tough competition and the critical eye of the jury which carefully considered each of the projects by applying the highest standards and quality criteria. The jury emphasized the uniqueness and aesthetic design of this collection of chairs which embraces the body, inventing the user enjoy the experience. Characterized by a high degree of comfort and spacious dimensions, it is a piece that easily adapts to numerous public spaces and is selected by professionals that want to provide a distinct and attractive esthetic.

Adherence to eco-design strategies and criteria of environmental standards was taken into consideration throughout the development of the Ronda.  The result in optimization of energy efficiency in manufacturing and an improvement in the processes of finishing, painting, packaging and logistics. Prior to the start of manufacturing, a lifecycle analysis and an environmental assessment were performed. These activities  allowed for an overall reduction of environmental impact and a significant drop in the energy consumption that greatly reduced the carbon footprint.

As winner of the Red Dot Award, the Ronda collection will be exhibited at the Red Dot Design Museum is located in Essen (Germany). With over 1,500 products and an area of over 43,000 square feet (4,000 square meters), the Red Dot Design Museum houses one of the most extensive exhibitions of international product design.
