The “Armchair Plisse” chair and the “Table natural” table obtain first and second prize in the current edition, which was contested by more than 350 participants.
This year’s jury was composed of the Chairman of the Spanish Council of Architects (CSCAE), Jordi Ludevid; the Director of El Croquis magazine, Fernando Márquez, the Italian designer Claudio Bellini, the Industrial designer Joan Lao, the editor in chief of the magazine “Architectural Digest España”, Enric Pastor and, lastly, the chef and restaurant owner Quique Dacosta.
On Tuesday 28th September, Andreu World’s stand at Feria habitat Valencia was host to the 10th Andreu World International Design Contest awards ceremony.
The first prize of this year’s edition was won by the “Armchair Plissé” chair project, by Francisco Ávila Áñon from Quart de Poblet (Spain). The chair stands out for its experimental, innovative character and its conceptual design. The jury’s attention was also called by the vision of this formally resolved piece, designed with surprising structural care. Finally, the jury made mention of the piece’s sensuality, its organic character and its fluidity.
The second prize was awarded to the “Table natural” project, designed by Thomas Hasenbichler & Herbert Klamminger (Austria). The jury placed particular importance on the functionality and emotional aspect of this table, which combines simplicity with the organic character transmitted by its legs. Similarly, the members of the jury highlighted the subtle architectonic gesture upon which the piece’s construction is based.
Lastly, the three honourable mentions were awarded to the following projects:
1st Honourable Mention to the “Banco urbano B+M” project, by Ernesto García Sempere Alicante (Spain), 2nd Honourable Mention to the “Mono is More” project by Gustavo Nuno Fernandes and João David Ferreira Lapa from Porto (Portugal) and, lastly, the 3rd Honourable Mention to the project “Bark Chair”, created by Estudio Creative Affairs, Barcelona.
For each of the pieces, the jury has evaluated the innovative contributions effected in the fields of design, product quality, technology and manufacturing processes, as well as the overall originality. The first prize is accompanied by 4000 Euros, whilst the winner of the second prize is to receive 2000 Euros.
The participation in this year’s competition has greatly exceeded that of previous years, with more than 300 projects submitted by contestants from all over the world.
