Designed by Lievore Altherr Molina, the Smile chair is a main feature in the New Vinum Restaurant and Wine Bar in Douro (Portugal).
The restaurant is located inside the Graham's Lodge wineries that are almost 200 year old. The building has recently been refurbished combining the generous use of wood, open spaces and a palette of minimalist colors.
The goal was to transform the historical space to satisfy the current needs of the place, without losing elegance nor damaging its originality or the uniqueness of this building that, in addition to the restaurant, is home to wineries, a center for visitors, a wine-tasting area, the grape harvest hall, a shop and a wine bar.
Smile chairs were chosen for the project, in natural oak wood and black lacquered finishes, in full harmony with the construction materials of the building: wood and granite. Studio P06-Nuno Gusmão in Lisbon, was in charge of the renovation. The Graham's Lodge building is located in Vila Nova de Gaia, very close to the statuary of the Duero River and of the Atlantic Ocean.
